An air conditioner (referred to as an air conditioner for short) is a device used to regulate indoor temperature, humidity, air cleanliness and air flow speed. Its core function revolves around "improving the indoor air environment", and at the same time, with the development of technology, it has derived various additional capabilities. The following is a detailed introduction to the main features of air conditioners from three dimensions: core functions, additional functions, and key components:

I. Core Function: Meet the basic environmental regulation requirements

The core function is the "essential role" of air conditioners, directly addressing the issue of uncomfortable indoor temperature and humidity. It is the basic configuration for all types of air conditioners (wall-mounted, floor-standing, central air conditioning, etc.)

Temperature regulation: Cooling and heating

Cooling function: Core demand in summer. The refrigerant (such as R32, R410A and other environmentally friendly refrigerants) is compressed into high-temperature and high-pressure gas by the compressor. After being cooled by the condenser, it turns into liquid and then absorbs heat and evaporates through the evaporator, reducing the indoor air temperature. Finally, the cold air is blown into the room by the fan to achieve cooling.

Heating function: Core demand in winter. It is divided into two ways:

Regular fixed-frequency/inverter air conditioners: By switching the flow direction of the refrigerant through the "four-way valve", the functions of the evaporator and condenser are interchanged to absorb heat from the outdoor air (they can work even in low-temperature environments, and some models support starting at -15 ℃).

Electric auxiliary heating air conditioner: In low-temperature environments (such as below -5 ℃), in addition to the refrigerant heating, the electric heating tube (similar to an "electric heater") is also turned on to assist in heating, increasing the heating speed and effect (but it will increase power consumption).

Humidity regulation: Dehumidification and humidification (for some models)

Dehumidification function: Essential for high-humidity environments (such as the rainy season). When the air conditioner is cooling, the hot and humid air in the room passes through the evaporator. The water vapor condenses into water upon contact with it (and is discharged through the drain pipe), indirectly reducing the indoor humidity. Some high-end models support "independent dehumidification" - they only dehumidify without cooling down, avoiding the indoor temperature from being too low during dehumidification.

Humidification function: Suitable for dry environments (such as heated rooms in northern winters). It is mainly seen in high-end air conditioners or "temperature and humidity integrated units", which release water vapor into the air through built-in humidification modules (such as ultrasonic humidification or water curtain humidification), maintaining the humidity within a comfortable range of 40% to 60% (this function is usually not available in ordinary basic air conditioners).

Air circulation and airflow control

The indoor unit fan drives the air to flow, evenly distributing the regulated air (cold/hot/dry) to every corner of the room to avoid "large local temperature differences".

Some models support "multi-angle air supply" (such as up and down sweeping, left and right sweeping) and "silent wind" (low wind speed mode, noise ≤20dB), enhancing the comfort of use.

Ii. Additional Functions: Enhance experience and health attributes

As users' demands for "health", "energy conservation" and "intelligence" increase, air conditioners are gradually adding various additional functions, which have become the core of differentiated competition:

Air purification function

It addresses indoor air pollution (PM2.5, dust, odors, bacteria, etc.) through built-in filters or purification modules:

Basic filter screens: Primary filter screen (for filtering large particle dust), activated carbon filter screen (for adsorbing odors, formaldehyde and other harmful gases);

High-end purification: HEPA filter (filtering PM2.5, pollen and other tiny particles, with a filtration efficiency of up to 99.97%), UV ultraviolet sterilization (destroying the DNA of bacteria and viruses, inhibiting the growth of microorganisms), negative ion generator (releasing negative ions, adsorbing floating dust in the air, improving air freshness).

Energy conservation and intelligent control

Energy-saving function:

Variable frequency technology: Compared with fixed-frequency air conditioners, variable frequency air conditioners can reduce power consumption by about 30% by adjusting the speed of the compressor, avoiding frequent starts and stops, and providing more precise temperature control (temperature difference ≤±0.5℃).

Grade 1 energy efficiency: Complies with the highest national energy efficiency standards (new national standard APF value ≥5.0), and is more energy-efficient for long-term use.

Sleep mode: Automatically adjust the temperature at night (for example, increase by 1℃ per hour when cooling and decrease by 1℃ per hour when heating), while reducing wind speed and noise, balancing comfort and energy conservation.

Intelligent control:

Remote control: Through mobile apps (such as Mi Home, Midea Home Furnishing, etc.), you can remotely turn on and off the device, adjust the mode/temperature, and it supports a timing function (such as turning on the device one hour in advance to enjoy a comfortable temperature when you get home).

Voice-controlled: Some models support connection to smart speakers (such as Xiaoai and Tmall Genie), and can be operated through voice commands (such as "Turn on the air conditioner and set 26℃").

Intelligent sensing: A few high-end models are equipped with human body sensing sensors, which can detect whether there are people in the room. When no one is present, the power will be automatically reduced or the machine will be turned off to avoid energy waste.

Special scene adaptation function

Self-cleaning function: After the air conditioner has been used for a period of time, the evaporator is prone to accumulate dust and mold (causing unpleasant odors and air pollution). The self-cleaning function automatically cleans the evaporator through the process of "frosting - defrosting - drying", reducing the frequency of manual cleaning.

Anti-direct blowing function: By adjusting the air supply Angle, it prevents cold or hot air from blowing directly onto the human body (especially suitable for the elderly and children), reducing the risk of "air conditioning illness".

Kitchen air conditioner/bathroom air conditioner: Designed for special environments (such as kitchen oil fume protection and bathroom water resistance), it solves the problem of traditional air conditioners being prone to damage in high oil fume/high humidity environments.
