I. Core Classification of Indoor Lighting Fixtures (By Function and Scenario)

According to different space requirements (such as living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens) and lighting purposes (basic lighting, local lighting, and ambient lighting), indoor lighting fixtures can be classified into the following categories, with significant differences in functions and applicable scenarios among each category:

CategoryCore functionApplicable Spaces/scenariosExamples of common forms
1. Basic lighting (main lighting)Provide uniform and integrated lighting to meet the basic needs of daily activitiesThe overall space including the living room, bedroom, dining room, study, etcCeiling lamps, chandeliers, downlights, spotlights (arranged in large areas)
2. Local lighting (functional lighting)Provide concentrated light for specific areas/activities to supplement the insufficiency of main lightingSpecific demand scenarios such as reading, cooking, grooming, and office workTable lamp (desk/bedside table), wall lamp (bedside/corridor), kitchen wall cabinet lamp, dressing mirror front lamp
3. Ambient lighting (Decorative lighting)Create layers of light and shadow, enhance the mood of the space, and highlight the decorative effectThe background wall of the living room, the bedside of the bedroom, the entrance hall, the display cabinet, etcLight strips (hidden in the ceiling or cabinet), floor lamps (beside the sofa), night lights, artistic chandeliers (stylish designs)
4. Special scene lighting categoryAdapt to the functional requirements of specific Spaces, taking into account both safety and practicalitySpecial environments such as bathrooms, kitchens, corridors, and cloakroomsWaterproof downlights (bathroom), oil-proof ceiling lights (kitchen), sensor wall lights (corridor/entrance hall), waterproof lights in front of mirrors (bathroom)

Ii. Key Technologies and Design Highlights of Lighting Fixtures

Modern lighting fixtures have evolved from "single light emission" to a fusion product of "technology + design", with core technologies and design details directly influencing the user experience and decorative effect.

1. Core technology: Determines the quality of lighting

Light source type: Currently, the mainstream is LED light source. Compared with traditional incandescent lamps and energy-saving lamps, it has the advantages of "energy saving (power consumption is only 1/10 of that of incandescent lamps), long life (lifespan can reach 10,000 to 50,000 hours), low heat generation, and adjustable spectrum". Some high-end products adopt "full-spectrum LED" to simulate natural light and reduce visual fatigue, making them suitable for study rooms and children's rooms.

Color temperature and brightness adjustment

Color temperature (unit: K) : Below 3000K is "warm yellow light" (suitable for bedrooms and dining rooms to create a cozy atmosphere). 3000K-5000K is "natural light" (suitable for study rooms and kitchens, restoring the true colors of objects). Above 5000K is "cold white light" (suitable for bathrooms and office areas to enhance brightness).

Brightness adjustment: Appliances that support "stepless dimming" or "multi-level dimming" (such as smart ceiling lamps and dimmable table lamps) can be switched according to the scene (for example, in the bedroom at night, the brightness can be adjusted to 10% to avoid dazzling).

Special function technology

Anti-blue light: For children and people who use lamps frequently, some table lamps and ceiling lamps have passed the "low blue light certification", reducing the harm of blue light to the eyes.

Waterproof and dustproof: The lighting fixtures in the bathroom and kitchen must meet the "IP protection grade" (such as IP44 waterproof, which can withstand damp/oily environments).

Intelligent control: Supports APP, voice (such as connecting to Tmall Genie or Xiaomi speaker) or human body sensing (such as corridor sensor lights), achieving "lights on when people come and off when they leave" and "remote on/off", enhancing convenience.

2. Design highlights: Shaping decorative style

Shape and material

Minimalist style: It often adopts "ultra-thin ceiling lamps" and "linear wall lamps", with materials mainly being white ABS and metal (matte black/silver), suitable for modern minimalist and Nordic-style home furnishings.

Retro style: Common "copper chandeliers" and "glass-covered table lamps" are seen, with designs that replicate the classical elements of the Republic of China era and European style, paired with retro furniture.

Artistic style: Such as "irregularly shaped chandeliers" (cloud-shaped, spherical) and "light and shadow light strips" (hidden in the ceiling or cabinet, creating a "suspended light effect"), they become the visual focus of the space and are suitable for light luxury and minimalist styles.

Light and shadow design: Some appliances create special light and shadow effects through "lampshade texture" and "lamp body structure" (such as pleated lampshades projecting "striped light and shadow", floor lamps "local diffused light"), avoiding the stiffness of direct light and enhancing the spatial layering.

Iii. Suggestions for the Selection and Use of Lighting Fixtures

1. Core principles for selection: "Space adaptation + demand priority"

Select brightness by space area: Refer to the "Illuminance standards" (such as 100-200lux for the living room and 300-500lux for the study). For a 10-square-meter bedroom, choose a 10-15W LED ceiling lamp; for a 15-square-meter living room, select a 20-30W LED ceiling lamp (or a combination of "ceiling lamp + downlight") to avoid being too bright and dazzling or too dark and harmful to the eyes.

Select functions by scene:

Study/Children's room: Prefer "full-spectrum + anti-blue light desk lamp", and adjust the color temperature to 4000K natural light.

Bathroom: "IP44 or higher waterproof lamps" must be selected to avoid short circuits caused by moisture.

For the bedside in the bedroom: Choose an "adjustable Angle wall lamp" or a "dimmable table lamp", which is convenient for reading before going to bed and does not disturb the person beside you.

Balance style consistency: The style of the lighting fixtures should match the overall style of the home (for example, for the Nordic style, choose "wooden base table lamp + white lampshade", and for the light luxury style, choose "metal chandelier + crystal decoration"), to avoid style conflicts and a messy appearance.

2. Precautions for Use and Maintenance

Avoid long-term over-brightness use: Although LED lights have a long lifespan, long-term full-power use will shorten their lifespan. It is recommended to adjust the brightness according to the scene (for example, use 50% brightness for daily activities and 100% brightness for cleaning).

Regular cleaning: The lampshades and lamp bodies are prone to dust accumulation, which affects the light transmittance. (For example, ceiling lamps and table lamps should be wiped with a dry cloth every 2-3 months. Kitchen lamps should be cleaned of oil stains with a damp cloth (wrung out) to avoid water ingency.)

Safe installation

Chandeliers and wall lamps should be fixed to load-bearing walls or ceiling keels to prevent them from falling off (especially chandeliers weighing more than 3 kilograms).

When installing lamps in bathrooms and kitchens, the interfaces should be sealed to prevent water vapor from entering the interior of the lamp bodies.

When changing a light bulb or light source, make sure to cut off the power first to avoid electric shock.
